Pumps and fittings
The market for pumps and fittings is an ideal field of application for cast iron products.
In this price-sensitive market, the advantages of iron casting come into their own: low unit costs and a high degree of design freedom to create complex water or fluid-carrying geometries.
We use both gray cast iron and ductile iron for this purpose.
The implementation of hydraulic functional parts is WESO’s core competence.

Product for pump and valve construction
In the field of pump and valve construction, there are numerous areas of application for products made from gray cast iron and nodular cast iron.
In our foundry, we mainly focus on the following products
- Housing for large water meters
- Flanges for pipes
- Valve housing
- Gate valves and housings for valves
- Housing for pumps
Due to the different requirements of the conveyed media, different designs and types are implemented.
The requirements result from the chemical and thermal properties of the flowing media.
These can be corrosive or abrasive media with different temperatures.
The products also place high demands on the component geometry in order to combine the requirements for functionality, a compact design and high flow efficiency.
Complex geometries are our strength, which we implement for our customers with thin-walled casting solutions.
The plus for castings for pump and valve construction
With the different materials gray cast iron and ductile cast iron, iron casting offers a broad spectrum for the design of products for pumps and fittings.
In addition, the components can be optimally adapted to the chemical and thermal load requirements by applying different coatings such as priming, painting, cathodic dip coating or other customer-specific coatings.
Grey cast iron is also a very cost-effective material to manufacture, as the material costs are significantly lower than for other materials.
Implementation of product solutions for pumps and valves
WESO supports its customers from the beginning of the product life cycle in the implementation of orders through to spare parts requirements after the end of series production.
Depending on the requirements of the media, from gases and corrosive liquids to drinking water, the quantity and the geometry requirements, we provide support in implementing the product requirements in optimum designs.
These are converted into model plates and core boxes for cost-effective production in our own model shop or with external partners.
For small quantities and prototypes, we work with model inserts, partial plate coverings and 3D-printed cores.
